Why does Gumboot Rally exist ?
Andy, Mikey and Gator are petrol heads through and through and love nothing more than an excuse for a road trip. While on one of our many road trips together we discussed how we would love to go for a drive through the Forgotten World Highway in Taranaki, meant to be the best driving road in the North Island.
We thought it would be fun to invite others to join in. Having been involved in organizing Cannonball Run NZ and competing in other automotive scavenger hunts the next step was quite logical.
Within the next month, Gumboot Rally Ltd was formed in July 2013.
Why do we do it?
On our first event, we had 23 cars driving from Hamilton – New Plymouth – Taupo. The smiles on the faces, the friendships made and the general mood of the prize giving gave the 3 of us the boost required to keep the ball rolling. Since then we have run at least 2 events per year. Sending hundreds of cars and thousands of people down the less beaten track to the spots you didn’t know existed.
The Charities
One year it was suggested we put on a car show to help raise money for camp twitch. It was amazing and the idea was born that we can have some fun and also do good at the same time. Since that event we have chosen a different charity each year to spread our support amongst the communities.

Who Are Gumboot Rally
In 2023 Andy and Family decided to head off shore for an adventure leaving the company in the trusty hands of Mikey and Gator.
Mikey
Residing in the Sunny town of Orewa Mikey is usually seen on a back road in his trusty 1984 Kp Starlet carving up the windy sections. Ticket sales, Info email account and sorting all the packs are all Mikeys Jam in the Gumboot Rally.
Gator
Proud Taranaki resident hiding under the mountain in the rural town of Stratford. Gator usually starts most car events with a trip on the Forgotten World Highway becoming quite the local since Gumboot Rally begun. Piloting His 4age Powered Green 1982 Starlet wearing a bright Green Hat, Gator sorts the logistics for Gumboot Rally and in Andys absence is learning mission packs.
Andy
Andy is the creative of the group. Amazing skills with mission packs that blew people away. his eye for detail and ability to spot any abandoned building making him an integral part of the team that is sorely missed. Andy While famous for his Mk1 Escort he is also a Die hard VW guy and has one of the cleanest Mk2 Golfs in the country.
